Florida Youth Maritime Training provides approved vocational training to be an American Boat and Yacht Council "Marine Service Technician". Successfully completing the "Marine Service Technician" assessment leads to recognition by the American Boat and Yacht Council as well as National Occupational Competency Testing Institute
Our High School Program teaches High School Freshman, Safe Boating as well as basic rowing and sailing skills. Our Sophomore Year program teaches basic boat building and keel boat sailing. Our Junior Year program expands on those skills and takes students for some adventure sailing like to the Dry Tortugas and beyond. Our Senior Year program enrolls young people into our "Marine Service Technician" program and then allows them to progress into the Merchant Mariner Program.
Florida Youth Maritime Training provides training and an internship program which includes American Petroleum Institute Safe Rigging, Occupational Health and Safety Administration First Responder (Operations) as well as training outlined in US Coast Guard NVIC 01-91 - Recommended Qualifications for Small Passenger Vessel Deckhands and US Coast Guard NVIC 01-95 - Voluntary Training Standards for Entry-Level Personnel on Towing Industry Vessels
In 2020, we trained 46 people which resulted in 37 people being employed with an average starting salary of $37,500.00
